Lecture to explore assistance to war-affected children The Social Science Society presents a free public lecture by Samantha Nutt, founder and executive director of War Child Canada, Wednesday, February 25, at 7 p.m. in the CAW Student Centre Commons. Dr. Nutt is a medical doctor with more than a decade of experience working in war zones, including Iraq, Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Iraq, Burundi, northern Uganda and the Thai-Burmese border. Her organization, War Child Canada, is dedicated to providing urgently needed humanitarian assistance to war-affected children around the world. It helps generate awareness, support and advocacy for children's rights everywhere. Nutt was named one of “12 Canadians Making a Difference” by Maclean's magazine, one of “Ten Outstanding Canadian Women” by Hello! Canada, “One of Canada’s Five Leading Activists” by Time magazine, and a “Top 40 Under 40” award recipient by the Globe and Mail. She is a professor of family and community medicine at the University of Toronto.
